Joining us from the University of Portsmouth are Dr. Devran Gulel and Karen Johnson, renowned researchers leading the multi-million EUR 'RE-WIRING' transformative research project from the UK. This international project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, and is contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5.

Dr Devran Gulel conducts gender-focused interdisciplinary research in a variety of fields, including law, politics, and organisational studies. Her interests encompass feminism and gender politics within a global context, human rights in authoritarian regimes, women’s labour market participation and workplace representation, and misogyny in political discourse, the judiciary, and law enforcement.

Karen Johnston is Professor of Organizational Studies at the University of Portsmouth. Her research interests include public administration and management, and gender studies. Karen has published highly regarded books, chapters and journals articles, and serves on editorial boards of highly ranked journals.

Mirella Visser is an experienced international General Manager and Supervisory Board member. She worked at senior levels in international financial services (Asia) and management consulting (Europe). Currently, she is chairing two Supervisory Boards of non-profits (KNCV TB Plus and Population Services International – Europe) and is a member of the Supervisory Council of ING Pension Fund, one of the largest corporate pensions funds. In addition, she sits on the Advisory Council Schiphol, advising the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure, and is a Board member of the Alumni Law Association VU. She was nominated for a lifetime achievement award at the Women in Law Awards 2022.

Mirella founded the Centre for Inclusive Leadership in 2004, which is a partner in the Horizon Europe RE-WIRING project (2023-2026) for women's inclusion and empowerment. Her focus remains on promoting and supporting women leaders, based on her extensive experience in the corporate and non-profit worlds: “If you are not at the table, you are on the menu”.

Mirella was a (co)-founder of several professional women's organizations and a member of the European Commission's Network to Promote Women in Decision-making Positions. She was nominated for 'European of the Year' (2007) by European Voice and recognized as one of Europe's 50 Most Influential Thinkers for advancing women's professional progress in Europe. (Co-)author of EPWN’s "Women on Boards Moving Mountains" (2007), "The Female Leadership Paradox" (2011), and "De Zijderoute naar de Top" (2010).
